How To Stop Sinning
Let's start with what most are thinking:
In order to stop sinning, all you have to do is stop.
Now that I got the obvious out of the way, 99.9% of the readers are still not convinced that they could stop sinning by just stopping, and if you are that 0.01%, let me just stay you are extremely strong because all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. Why should you stop sinning might be the next question that comes to mind, so let me go ahead and clarify as to why before how.
Sin has been around since the beginning of time; if you don't know the story of Adam & Eve, I advise you to read the book of Genesis so you could further understand the origin of sin and why it exists. Humans were created by God and made to spend eternity with him, Holy and just like him, but when sin entered the world, everything turned for the worst. Sin in the dictionary is "an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law." Romans 5:12 says "Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned". That being said, sin brought death to the world; sin leads to death. Every last human (besides Jesus) was brought into the world with iniquity, as Psalms 51:5 says "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me." This means that we are all dying, sin being the root cause of it as it dwells within us. Many of us know the scripture, but if you read John 3:16, you will find that God 'so' loved us, he sent his only son to set us free from sin, to save us, to give us a chance at redemption, to bring us eternal salvation, to set us free from bondage! *Hallelujah, thank you Jesus!* What caused this? Nothing but the pure and perfect love that was displayed at the cross when a perfect man died for the sins of the world. Here we are, knowing that Jesus Christ died for us and gave us eternal salvation unto those who believe in him, for his (perfect) blood covers us and makes us Holy in the sight of God, and blameless of any sin, with the condition that we repent and no longer serve sin, but live our lives giving Glory unto the Lord.
We sin for many different reasons, mostly because we enjoy our sin, are in spiritual bondage, or there is a void in our hearts we are trying to fill that sin fills only temporarily.
There you have it, the reason why you should stop sinning: God is worthy and his perfect love was given to you so that you could be set free from sin and have eternal life with him. Death is no longer an issue. The void in your hearts that you try to fill with sin can only be filled by Jesus Christ.
I'm just a Sinner turned into a Saint...
Not too long ago, my life was smothered with sin; I was the chief of sinners. In high school, everyone knew where to find where the party was at, or where the crowd/drugs/alcohol was: they would all come and ask me. Sometimes I didn't have an answer but they knew my lifestyle was one of sin, and that attracted many people. I was popular & had tons of friends that when I now look back, I noticed many were around just to sin (with or around me). At the time I had no clue that they just hung out with me to fill voids, especially the friends that did drugs with me, and my past girlfriends. Had Jesus come back, It scares me to think that all of these people would've spent an eternity separate from God because we chose sin. Good news is that there's still time to repent and choose righteousness.
I was in relationships that were extremely unhealthy and sinful, as well as had a profession working as a DJ in nightclubs that opened doors every way I turned. I understand how hard it is to leave sin especially when you are known for it, so the reason I'm sharing piece of my life is so anyone out there who feels like they could never stop or leave the lifestyle of sin could just remove that thought from their mind. It's possible, and I'm getting ready to share how.
MAKING SACRIFICES, BEING OBEDIENT, & NOT IN THAT ORDER
The bible says that obedience is better than sacrifice in 1st Samuel 15:22. To stop sinning, start with being obedient, and understand that also, the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 9:10). If you are obedient to God, the enemy will flee if you continue to resist the enemy (James 4:7). With that comes the next step; sacrifice. Sacrifice your sins, and things you love unto the Lord in exchange for restoration, or someone you love to have healing and breakthrough, or even a job. God receives sacrifice, as he sacrificed his own son for you. Do not waste time. Make the decision today. Be blessed, and may the Spirit of God be with you.
